The Texas Tournament will be held June 3^rd & 4^th (Friday & Saturday)

The Texas State and District 8 Open Checker Tournament will be held June 3rd and 4th, at Baymont Inn & Suites, 2313 SE Loop, Carthage, TX 75633 (903)-694-9075. (map) (baymontinns.com)  Registration at 8:00 a.m., a short business meeting at 8:30 am, with play starting at 9:00 am on Friday, and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. Doubles or King $61.99 + tax if we rent 8 rooms, so clarify you are a checker player; otherwise, $68.99.  Amenities including free continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi, outdoor pool, gym, business center, and meeting room.

Elbert Jones was elected President of the Texas Checker Association, and Manager of District 8 in the 2014 Texas annual business meeting.  He will also coordinate the TX/D8 Tournaments as Tournament Director.

• Congratulations! to CM Albert Tucker from Minden, Louisiana and Larry Pollard from Brilliant, Alabama who tied 1st place and won the tournament, but not being a Texas resident or from District 8 the title goes to the next contestant that is the highest finishing State resident and the District 8 title to the highest finishing District 8 player.
• Congratulations! to Elbert Jones from Carthage, Texas who played an outstanding tournament!  He is recognized as the 2016 Texas State Champion and District 8 Champion.
• Congratulations! Watson Franks from Vidor, TX and Lester Binnick from Houston, TX as respectively finishing in 4th and 5th place.
• Elbert Jones, D8 manager opened the 2016 Texas business meeting by welcoming five players and lead the group in open prayer and bless the tournament. 
• A decision was made to play 5 rounds of Round-Robin as the tournament format with a 2 point bye.  This was a cut from the advertised 7 round tournament over 2 days as 4 rounds on Friday and 3 rounds on Saturday.  Albert Tucker become sick suffering from high blood pressure helped in making the decision to finish the tournament Friday evening.  
• GM  stands for Grand Master,  IM for International Master, and CM for Candidate Master, which are earned titles given by WCDF to distinguish accomplished players.
• ACF Rating - before this tournament, and the after ratings is your rating after this tournament's performance.  Supplied by ICH Checkers www.icheckers.net.  Ratings are compiled by ACF Rating Processor, Joe Moore.  The new rating will be added when available. icheckers ratings
• "T" separates player's opponent from player's game points for that round.  Draw is 1, Win is 2 points,  Bye is 2, and Forfeit is 4.
• The tournament entry fee of $25 was collected at registration, and it was announced the individual players were responsible for their ACF membership, because this was an ACF sanctioned Texas & District 8 Tournament.
• We definitely appreciate Mr. Joe McDaniel from Tulsa, OK who sent us a $300.00 check as a contribution to the tournament prize fund.
• Elbert Jones used $50 from last year's tournament for a nice assortment of snacks, drinks, & water. The entry fees of $125.00 (5x$25) was used to pay their 2 day Baymont Inn & Suites playing room expense of $113.00. The difference of $12.00 & Larry Pollard's $75.00 which he donated back to Texas/D8 prize fund for a total of $85.00 will go into next year's tournament fund.
• Elbert Jones reported the results Friday, June 3rd, 2016 at 7:32 PM by phone. This was a 5 round (Round Robin) 3-Move Tournament as highlighted in blue above.
• We awarded a 2016 Texas State Championship trophy and ACF District 8 Championship plaque. Other tournament expenses included playing room, food & drinks, etc.
• Baymont Inn & Suites in Carthage, TX has changed ownership, and seems to appreciate our Texas / District 8 Tournament using Baymont as their choice of venue. They took some pictures which I hope to post in a few days.
• We offer a big thank you to Elbert Jones, our District 8 manager for his efforts at organizing and directing this event.
• Elbert Jones, announced the 2016 Texas Open & District 8 may move to another Texas location since he is hopeful Watson Franks will become their District 8 Manager.
• Panola Watchman, the newspaper of Carthage the county seat of Panola Co. and surrounding counties of East Texas did an article on Elbert Jones' win 6/10/16.
• We also want to thank Elbert Jones and daughter Pam and all the other individuals who helped with thElbert Jones 6-12-e tournament.
